2025.07.22

On May 9, 2025, the Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC) of Mongolia successfully organized the “Broadcasting Development – 2025” forum. The event served as a platform for in-depth discussions on the development trends in the broadcasting sector, content production, evolving transmission environments, technological innovations, and the enhancement of international cooperation.

The forum brought together more than 90 participants, including representatives from both domestic and international television broadcasters, content creators, professional associations, policymakers, and regulatory bodies.

Notable international attendees included executives and representatives from South Korea’s Arirang TV, MBC Plus, KBC, content distribution company Busan Content Market, and production companies such as Magic Image, Character Link, Weo, and RoiVisual. From the technology and platform sector, delegates from Singapore’s Brainstorm and Whiteways Systems, and Ukraine’s Animagic were also present.

Key topics addressed during the forum included the rapid transformation in audience content consumption behavior, the growing influence of social media, OTT services, and streaming platforms such as Netflix, YouTube, and TikTok, as well as the current state of Mongolia’s free-to-air broadcasting market, revenue trends, and the advancement of multi-channel transmission technologies. The impact of these developments on the national broadcasting landscape was analyzed, drawing on reports and insights from international consulting and research organizations.

Participants also explored recent technological advancements in content production and broadcasting, such as the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in newsroom workflows, virtual production, cloud-based broadcasting solutions, and experiences from TV networks and multi-channel distributors in adopting these technologies. Mongolia’s ongoing transition to 4K broadcasting and the measures being undertaken by broadcasters and transmission operators, including challenges and anticipated outcomes, were thoroughly discussed.

In a session dedicated to content co-production and format acquisition, Arirang TV and Mongolia’s Education Television presented their experiences in international co-productions and format adaptation, highlighting the benefits and potential of collaborative content development.

The Mongolian National Film Council introduced opportunities for international studios to conduct film shoots in Mongolia, outlining available government support and incentives. They also discussed prospects for exporting domestic film content to foreign markets. The “Gal Khugjil” Association of regional broadcasters expressed interest and readiness to collaborate with foreign and national broadcasters on programs showcasing local history, culture, and identity.

As part of the forum, a “Content, Production, and Cooperation Exhibition and Networking Session” was held, allowing participants to showcase their productions, services, and operations, and engage in knowledge-sharing and partnership discussions. This segment featured participation from two Mongolian production studios and over ten major broadcasters from Ulaanbaatar and regional areas, alongside content and platform companies from South Korea, Singapore, and Ukraine, who introduced their distinctive works and business models.

Overall, the forum provided a comprehensive dialogue on the current state, challenges, and emerging opportunities within the broadcasting industry. It served as a vital platform for experience exchange, industry networking, and initiating new collaborative efforts in broadcasting and content development.
